“Salt of the earth and light of the world”, Matthew 5:13-14

About Lent

Lent is a liturgical season of preparation, as we get ready for Easter—the Church’s greatest celebration.

It is hoped that through the three key pillars of the Lenten season (Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving), we can transform as individuals, families, and communities to be the Salt of the Earth and Light to the World.

In conjunction with the Lenten celebration, we hope to raise RM2 million for the Archdiocesan Office for Human Development (AOHD) to carry out programmes in the various ministries. All donations and prayers during this period will be welcomed to serve our brothers and sisters in need.

You can also join us in our daily 40 Day Reflection throughout Lent.

Prayer deepens our relationship with God. It makes us grateful for the blessings we have received. In prayer we can share our hopes, joys, fears, and frustrations with God.

Fasting is a spiritual and purifying act that helps us to abstain ourselves from worldly pleasures and to be fully immersed in our Christian lives.

Almsgiving makes the needs of our brothers and sisters our own, as we share our material, goods, and our time to those in need.

Archbishop’s Message

Our Goal

The Archdiocesan Office for Human Development (AOHD) is the official arm of the Catholic Church that oversees the promotion of charity, integral human development, justice and peace. Their main objective is to ensure that pastoral care is provided to the poor and marginalised. Funding from the Lenten campaign supports various projects by the Parish Integral Human Development Ministries (PIHDM), which ministers to the Orang Asli, migrants and refugees, urban and rural poor, women/single mothers, special needs, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and the incarcerated.

THANK YOU for being the beacon of light to others.

Following the pandemic, we’ve seen an increase need to help those that were significantly affected, especially financially. Together with the various Parish Integral Human Development Ministries (PIHDM), we hope to be able to touch lives and make a difference.

This season of Lent, we are setting a goal of reaching RM2 mil to support the efforts and projects under the Archdiocesan Office for Human Development (AOHD). Funding from this Lenten campaign will help in the distribution of provisions, medical help, and cash aid. A portion of the donations will also be used for educational assistance as we have a special needs centre for children on the autism spectrum.

To help the relevant ministries, we need your contributions. If you would like to bless others as God has blessed you, scan the QR code to donate or make an online/physical transfer.

40 Days Reflection

Everyday during Lent (except Sundays), we will be posting a short video for reflection. These videos will feature priests, religious, and laypeople in the ministries to help us understand the true meaning of Lent and how we can practise the three key pillars of Lent—prayer, fasting and almsgiving. All daily videos will be uploaded here. Don’t forget to share these videos with family, friends and BEC members.

Light of Life @ Home

Prayer Jar

A 'Prayer Jar' can be made from a decorated used jar . In the spirit of Lent, we invite each family member to write a prayer request for someone outside the family (ie. a relative, friend, neighbour). Every night during Lent, one family member in turn picks out a prayer request and the whole family prays over it together.

Giving Jar

Recycle one of your used jars at home and decorate it as a 'Giving Jar'. Each family member will put a portion of their savings for the day or week into this jar. These savings can be from the remainder of your lunch money or savings accumulated due to abstinence of items. Towards the end of the Lenten period, we invite you to donate the money to the poor, or hand it to the church.

DIY Lenten Candle Making

Here's another project that every family can do at home. Get candles from church or a nearby store and decorate it as a family. You can have the candle placed at the altar or a table where the family prays. You can also prepare individual candles for the family to take to mass on Holy Saturday.
